Keeping your healthy smile

smiling-seniorOctober is National Dental Hygiene Month. Each week, we’ll have a new post about how to keep your teeth beautiful and healthy. With proper care, tooth loss can be avoided.
Regular dental checkups are a must. At least once a year, visit a dentist.
Dental exams can help spot gum disease, oral cancers as well as maintain your teeth clean and strong. Another positive? Dentists can learn about your overall health from your exam.
Helpful information to have handy during your dental visit:
  • List if medications, vitamins or herbal supplements
  • List of medical conditions and allergies.
  • Health care provider contact information, including your previous dentist.
  • Emergency contact info.
  • Medicare or dental insurance cards.
  • Dentals and partials.
And don’t wait until you feel aches or pain in your teeth.
As we get older, the nerves in our teeth become smaller and less sensitive, making it more difficult to spot when we have dental issues.
By the time you feel pain, it may be too late to save your tooth.
